We’re Matt and Cary Whitermore. We moved here as a couple — one of us for the first time, the other coming back after a decade away. Same city, two completely different learning curves. But we wanted the same thing: to get out, meet people, and know what's going on around us. We couldn't find one place that pulled it all together, so we started Salt City Club.
Salt City Club is for anyone who wants to be more connected to Syracuse, CNY, and the people in it. The newsletter lands every Tuesday, free. But it's just the start — we've got events, local partnerships, and ways to actually meet each other in the works.
And it’s written by two people who live, eat, and explore here, and want to share what we find with you, too.

Every week, we dig through what's happening and pull out the events we think you should know about. Not a calendar dump. A curated shortlist with one Featured Event at the top — the thing we'd tell you about if we only had 10 seconds. Concerts, markets, openings, neighborhood happenings.

One restaurant, bar, or food spot. What to order. What the vibe is. Whether you need a reservation. We'll rotate between new openings, old favorites, and places you've driven past a hundred times without stopping.

A deeper look at someone or something making Syracuse better. The person behind the counter. The organization doing the work. The project that's about to change a neighborhood. A quick read, but enough to understand why it matters.
